Criminal Law

What do we do?

We take on criminal matters by providing advice and advocating on behalf of our clients in cases involving criminal matters. Criminal litigation refers to trials being held at the criminal court instead of the civil court. It is a legal action brought by the Republic of Singapore against an individual on things such as petty theft, assault, and battery, money laundering, etc. (matters which people call crimes).

Why do I need a lawyer and what can he do for me?

Being confronted with criminal charges can be a terrifying and daunting affair. For many people, it may even be their first brush against the law and they may be at a loss as to what to do. Furthermore, the state employs public prosecutors who are legal professionals which further disadvantages the accused. By hiring a lawyer, clients can rest assured that they will have guidance on the court system and that their lawyers will work to get their charges and/or sentence lessened or dropped completely. Lawyers advise clients on their options and work to bring evidence to the police and prosecutors.

Insurance Claims – Motor and Industrial accidents

Why Us?

W eare aware that clients come to us with their insurance claims to avoid being subjected to the hassle of negotiating their own claims. We also understand that clients want to continue on with their day to day events and we work towards making the entire claims process as convenient and efficient for them as possible.

Why do I need a lawyer for my personal injury or property damage claim?

It is possible for individuals to successfully handle their own insurance claims if the case is straightforward (i.e. in an accident where it is not the individual’s fault). But insurance loss adjusters are often looking for ways to reduce their liability or the value of the claim. In more complex cases, statements and correspondences made to the opposing side must be made with care.

Getting a lawyer to negotiate on your behalf reduces the risk of that happening. Also, your lawyer will be able to advise you on the fairness of the offer and on whether you have a viable case that is worth bringing to trial. If you are unsure, Prestige Legal LLP offers a free first consultation session where you can decide if you want to be represented by us.

Conveyancing

Conveyancing (HDB, Private, Commercial & Industrial)

Prestige Legal LLP’s Conveyancing Department is experienced and friendly.  In addition, being located in Toa Payoh Central helps us to facilitate the process, making it quicker and more convenient for our clients.

Conveyancing is the branch of law that is concerned with the transfer of property.  In modern-day parlance, conveyancing generally is with respect to transactions involving land – i.e. purchase, sale, refinancing, redemption, transfer of shares etc.

Why do you need a lawyer for Connveyancing

Once you have found a piece of property you are interested in, negotiations between your lawyers and those of the seller for the option to purchase or sale and purchase agreement will begin (depending on which document is being used for the sale). If you decide to purchase the property, you may then sign the option to purchase or the sale and purchase agreement, depending on which document is being used to conclude the sale.

After that, your lawyer will lodge a caveat on the property with the Singapore Land Authority. The caveat serves to provide notice to third-parties of your interest in the property and also enables both you and your lawyer to be notified of any subsequent dealings affecting the property.

Civil litigation

What is Civil Litigation

Civil litigation is matters taken to court between individuals and/or groups in their private capacity.  These typically arise when parties disagree over a contract or when a wrongful act is committed or when an individual’s rights have been infringed.  Examples of civil litigation include disagreement of contractual terms, defamation, cases of personal injury caused by another’s negligent act.
